Higher Education Act of 2008 Calls for Bandwidth Management and Traffic Shaping Technology to Prevent Illegal Peer-to-Peer File Sharing

BOSTON (Business Wire EON/PRWEB ) September 4, 2008 -- A recent update to the Higher Education Act of 1965 requires universities to have a plan to combat the illegal downloading of music, videos and other copyrighted works on college campus networks. The new law calls for universities to consider the use of technology-based deterrents such as bandwidth shaping and traffic monitoring technology to prevent illegal peer-to-peer file sharing.
