Popular GPS Systems Get Extreme Makeovers: Voice-Lifts and Personality Transplants Reported

GPS software company PIGtones.com now makes it possible to easily replace the standard GPS voices with various entertaining, risqué and politically incorrect alternatives. The growing selection of 12 different GPS voices includes Arnold the Governator, Elvis, Yoda, "W", and more. http://www.PIGtones.com

Dallas, TX (PRWEB) August 22, 2008 -- Dale Hensel, co-founder of PIGtones.com, (Politically Incorrect GPS Tones), has a unique way to cope with high gas prices that's unlikely to enter the political debate. Instead of pain-at-the-pump, Hensel's Pigtones.com supplies laughter-behind-the-wheel.

According to Hensel, the process is easy. "First, step #1: purchase a GPS system (prices continue to drop), which reduces the chance of getting lost and wasting fuel. Step #2: replace standard GPS voices with PIGtones GPS voices that will definitely increase the smiles per gallon."

The biggest challenge to PIGtones? Communicating the fact that it's now possible to replace the standard (and boring) GPS voices in the first place. Having launched the new PIGtones.com website recently, Hensel shared, "It's amazing how so few people knew that Garmin GPS and Tom Tom GPS Systems systems can have their standard voices so easily replaced. Of course, we want PIGtones to do for GPS what ringtones did for cell phones."

A review of the PIGtones web site reveals over a dozen "voicetones" from the familiar celebrity impersonator voices (Arnold, "W", Yoda, Elvis) to the more risqué and even downright controversial. There are voice samples for each on the site. Does Hensel expect a backlash from the more politically incorrect voices?

As Hensel responded, "Well, we do call ourselves PIGtones as in Politically Incorrect GPS. Do we expect heat? Sure, but if we can help someone get over any road rage by adding a few laughs to their trip, it'll all be worth it. Besides, we are an equal opportunity offender. We even have a contest that lets the driving public decide who we parody next."

As marketing trends go, GPS systems are hot. During the 2007 holiday season, GPS systems outsold every other electronic device, even iphones and ipods. It's estimated that by 2013, over 900 million people worldwide will use some type of GPS system according to ABI Research.

One reason for the rapid increase in sales is the equally rapid decrease in GPS System prices. The average price fell from $322 in 2006 to $171 in 2007. And yet with so many technology advances in GPS, one element was lacking: a variety of voices that consumers now expect these days when it comes to customizing their personal electronic devices.

So rather than waiting for the GPS manufacturers to offer voice alternatives, Hensel and his partners, Ryan Harper and Brad Costanzo, engineered their own solution. PIGtones.com offers its customers tutorial videos on how to replace the old GPS voices with new PIGtones GPS voices. The process is simply a matter of connecting the GPS unit to a computer with a standard USB cable. And the price of each voice is very affordable, about the cost of three gallons of regular gas.
