Indie Artist Michael James Breaks the Mold by Showcasing 2008 NACA Dates

Singer/Songwriter Michael James is set to perform at the NACA Central and Northeast October 16th and November 6th showcases.

Denver, CO (Billboard Publicity Wire/PRWEB ) September 5, 2008 -- Solo artist Michael James recently released his new EP "To Raise an Army for Love" and now unlike most independent artists, and among many heavy hitters in entertainment, he is showcasing at NACA Central: October 16th, in Tulsa, OK and at NACA Northeast: November 6th, in Hartford, CT.

While most independent singer/songwriters choose to perform at local bars and clubs every night, Michael James is onto something novel. He has chosen to get his music out into the world unlike the typical independent artist. As a member of the National Association for Campus Activities (NACA) for over three years, he has now been selected for two upcoming showcases. NACA is an organization that brings universities and colleges together with various entertainers in diverse genres for the purpose of bringing entertainment to college campuses. These showcases can be hard to come by and they are very competitive. As a musician, he is not only up against other musicians for a showcase slot, but also up against comedians, magicians, speakers, etc. Many of the performers are well established in their careers-- they have been on Leno and Letterman, Last Comic Standing, and Saturday Night Live. Rarely are there any amateur entertainers as most are professionals represented by legitimate agencies. This certainly is a feat for an independent singer/songwriter like James.

To further, there almost 700 applications for the Northeast region this year, and the majority of those applications come from large agencies that represent nationally known talent and entertainers. Since Michael is a self-represented artist and only about 60 showcasing slots were awarded (less than 10%), it is quite an accomplishment just to get a showcase at NACA--especially when the odds are stacked against you like they were for him. Now, James is using his weight as a NACA showcase performer to reach the masses with his music. Taking a new route for sharing independent music, James is setting the mold for musicians everywhere.

About Michael James
At a time when popular music leans toward the bland and impersonal, a musical architect of Michael James' quality and candor is both unheard of - and a must-hear. With his new EP, "To Raise an Army for Love," James escapes the notion of a typical "love song" without abandoning the single most important element in his music: his undeniable gift for pouring his heart into every song and allowing the listener to momentarily become the characters he sings about. Rising above a range of influences such as U2, Death Cab For Cutie, Sufjan Stevens, and Damien Rice, Michael James' music embodies heartfelt songwriting that is rich with hook-driven melodies, a slice-of-life story telling, and atmospheric guitars.

About NACA
