Celebrities Feel the Pinch from Burglars

Whilst UK celebrities are out and about enjoying the red-carpet high life, lowlife thieves seem to be paying more and more attention to their empty homes. This underlines the importance of not skimping on the less glamorous things in life like home insurance and car insurance, says Confused.com.

Cardiff, (PRWEB) July 24, 2008 -- Despite often having state-of-the-art security measures, the homes of reality TV stars, music biz personalities and football heroes are proving just too tempting a target for burglars. Celebs that have fallen prey to these most unwelcome of visitors include:

Jade Goody - the reality TV veteran has been targeted no fewer than three times by burglars. In the latest raid (May 2008), thieves made off with a reported £50,000 in jewellery. As all three burglaries took place at the same Essex address, the clear lesson is: buy a better burglar alarm!

Big Brother 2008 evictee Alex De Gale's BMW was vandalised in her driveway as a result of her bullying ways on the show. So if you're thinking of going on Big Brother, here's a tip - get adequate car insurance and home insurance before going in!

Ex-Atomic Kitten and former Queen of the Jungle Kerry Katona had a terrifying time of it when armed robbers held a knife to her neck at her Cheshire home. The trio of masked men made off with goods worth £150,000, including a BMW M5.

Simon Cowell had his London Mansion ransacked for booty whilst he was off sorting the wheat from the chaff on American Idol. The millionaire talent spotter's home was broken into whilst undergoing renovation - a vulnerable time that stresses the importance of notifying your home insurance company whenever building works are taking place onsite.

A burglar fled with £2m in jewellery from the Buckinghamshire mansion of Ozzy Osbourne - despite being tackled by the former wild man of rock. It's a good thing for the thief that Ozzy wasn't feeling peckish that night - after all, the one-time Black Sabbath frontman once bit the head of a bat.

John Taylor, 80s heartthrob bassist with Duran Duran, had his home broken into and items nicked included his personal safe. Police are looking for a well-built, middle-aged woman wearing a ra-ra skirt and a snood!

Other celebs to feel the pinch include Icelandic pixie-popstar Björk, who suffered a break-in at her Maida Vale apartment, and Liverpool lass Cilla Black - the Björk of her day - who had items valued at a £1m stolen from her Buckinghamshire home.

But it seems that footballers have the worst of it… particularly if you play for Liverpool.

Players burgled whilst plying their trade at Anfield include Daniel Agger, Peter Crouch (stolen items included an Aston Martin and £200,000 worth of bubbly), Dirk Kuyt, Stephen Gerrard, Pepe Reina (stolen items included a Porsche - later found burnt out) and Jerzy Dudek.

If you're thinking 'Everton fan', spare a though for poor Andy van der Meyde. The Everton winger was burgled twice in 2006, with unscrupulous burglars (as opposed to the scrupulous kind) making off with a pedigree puppy. Happily, the Dutchman was later reunited with 'Mac' - a rare Dogue de Bordeaux.

Down south, Frank Lampard was asleep in bed when burglars broke into his Chelsea mansion. Thieves grabbed a pair of car keys and then made off with two of the England midfielder's cars.

Simon Lamble, product director at Confused.com, said: "No matter who you are and how healthy your bank balance, thieves can find a way into your home if they have a mind to. Since robust security measures won't always prevent a burglary, another way to protect your valuables is with adequate home insurance and car insurance."
