The 3rd time was the charm for Paperback Hero, who had entered the station's two previous "Rock Star" contests, only to lose in the final round. The band released the following statement: "Being a part of Rock Star 98.7 was a thrill and winning has been a surreal moment for us! We are grateful to our loyal fans that came out and supported us, and we're truly Thankful to 98.7 FM for supporting and playing local music. Performing at the opening of the Grammy Museum is the chance of a lifetime!"
Paperback Hero and 4 other finalists performed 3 songs live at the Whisky on Sept. 27th before a packed house and a panel of industry experts in all phases of the Music Business: A&R, Major Label Artists, MySpace Records, Online, Press, Radio and Touring - in the finale of KYSR/98.7 FM's "Rock Star 987" contest, which began August 4th, 2008.
To be eligible for the contest, artists were asked to submit a video of an original song, which was then voted on by fans and the panel of experts at the station website, www.987FM.com. More than 115 acts entered the contest. A panel of music industry judges and an on-line listener vote narrowed the contestants to the final 5 performers.
Paperback Hero just returned to Los Angeles from a brief tour that followed the contest, which included supporting Rock legends Styx at a sold-out show in Honolulu on October 9th. The band's next Live Performance is October 20th at The Key Club in Hollywood. Paperback Hero will be entering the studio in November to continue recording their next full length album, due out in the 2nd half of 2009.
