The Serene Rationality of Maimonides

The Serene Rationality of Maimonides: Angel Orensanz Celebrates in Cordoba the Great Philosopher with his Sculpture Sphere

Cordoba, Spain (PRWEB) September 30, 2008 -- Sculptor Angel Orensanz paraded yesterday his sculpture sphere in front of the monument to Moses Maimonides in Cordoba (Andalucia), who is without any doubt the most relevant Spanish philosopher of all times. Born in Cordoba during the Arab splendor of the 12th Century, he used the Aristotelian rational method to its fullest, to explain Jewish theology and law. In the process, he established a new methodology that would mark for ever the rules of thought of the Western world.

Angel Orensanz has travelled around the world with his sculpture sphere to mark landmark moments, cultural and historical, such as the developments of the Perestroika in Moscow; the collapse of the Twin Towers in New York, or the commemorations of the end of the Second World War in Tokyo and Berlin, the preservation of the landscape in Southern France or to protest the start of the war in Iraq (Venice). The sphere is the concept and object most rational and unifying of the universal consciousness, according to Aristotle and, again, to Moses Maimonides in A Guide for the Perplexed.

Angel Orensanz is in Cordoba now, invited by ENRESA and participating in the 11th International Seminar of Journalism and the Environment that takes place in this Andalucian city, because of his international leadership in ecological movements. He is joining as well in the homage that ENRESA grants to the thousands of volunteers who took part in the clean up of the sea coasts of the oil dumped by the cargo ship Prestige, with a photo exhibition that documents the contribution of all those people involved in the clean up operation.
