Cover-up of Powerful CEO's Death Makes for an Exciting New Medical Techno-Thriller

In Dr. J. Matthew Neal's debut novel "Specific Gravity" a troubled, arrogant doctor meets his match in a deaf forensic scientist, as they pitch their wits together to solve a truly bizarre mystery in this exciting techno-thriller.

Muncie, IN (PRWEB) November 12, 2007 -- When Dr. Alexander Darkkin moves from Nashville to San Diego, unsatisfied with his life and looking for a change of pace, he gets much more than he bargained for. The unusual conspiracy that Darkkin stumbles across in his new hospital comprises Dr. J. Matthew Neal's exciting techno-thriller, "Specific Gravity" (ISBN 9780615141374, Dunn Avenue Press, 2007).

Soon after his arrival in sunny Southern California, Darkkin curiously inspects the files of a patient who recently died--billionaire pharmaceutical CEO John Markham. When Darkkin realizes that someone may have tampered with the CEO's medical records to cover up a murder, he becomes determined to solve the homicide. On his own, however, Darkkin lacks the expertise to close the case, so he reluctantly enlists the aid of his sister's best friend, "Mendoza the Miraculous," aka Bonnie Mendoza, a deaf forensic scientist of unusual abilities.

Mendoza is a mathematical and lexical wizard with the rare neurological trait "synesthesia," which literally means, "a union of the senses." She sees numbers and letters as colors, for example, while people have distinct odors. These odd traits, along with her talents as a magician and escape artist, make Mendoza a valuable, albeit argumentative, crime-solving partner for Darkkin. "Specific Gravity" is a techno-thriller, meaning that the novel includes a large amount of technical detail and a focus on the inner mechanics of science, such as the science of Mendoza's forensic techniques and escape artist tricks.

Although the two strongly dislike each other at first, Darkkin eventually finds himself very attracted to Mendoza as their relationship develops. His internal journey also plays a big role in "Specific Gravity." When he realizes that his indulgent life has failed to provide him with true happiness, he strives to become more selfless, in an effort to redeem himself. But to succeed in confronting his own demons, he must face the possibility of losing the most important thing in his life.

"Specific Gravity" will keep readers hooked all the way to the end, as Darkkin suddenly discovers that murderer, not to mention the unbelievably bizarre murder weapon, has been conspicuously lurking in plain view all along.
